St Philip and St James Church, Alderley Edge

2.00 Cup of tea and chat

2.30-3.30 singing run by Melanie Levy professional Music leader

£3 per person

The congregation at St Philip & St James church has been thinking for a while now how it can meet the needs of older people living in Alderley Edge and especially those living with memory loss and mental health issues associated with dementia.  A number of members of the congregation have been directly affected either as carers for people with dementia or living with dementia themselves.

Mel Levy a professional music leader, already works at Brook View Care Home, and is going to tailor the sessions, to be held in the West End of St Philip and St James, to meet the needs local people to use singing as a way of relaxing, meeting up with others, and their carers.

The sessions will start with a cup of tea, and chat, followed by an hour of singing – songs from the shows, memorable 50's and 60's music.

Voices Together will form part of a programme which is resulting in increased community use of the west End of the church.  An art group will very shortly start meeting in the church 10am to 12 noon.  There is a midweek service 11.30 to 12 noon after which worshipers, artists and various others who stroll in share a communal meal.  At the moment the local history group often meets in the church on Wednesday afternoons at 2pm.  If Voices Together becomes a regular weekly event this time may need to be adjusted slightly.

If you would like to be updated on any aspect of the community events taking place in the church, including Voices Together, please contact the vicar by telephone or text on 07794 122602 or by email on revrobinpye@gmail.com
