Sermons and Letters

This collection of sermons and letters is posted here to give you an idea of the life of our church and especially of how the lives of the people who worship here are informed by the way in which we read and understand Scripture. Nearly everything here was written by the vicar, Rev'd Robin Pye although he is not the only preacher in our church. Robin, and our other preachers usually write sermons with particular passages of the Bible in mind. If you would like to, you can read the accompanying Bible passage, as stated in the sermon titles.

Art often reflects life, and Robin's preaching is no different. He might take inspiration from things people said to him whilst trainning to become a priest, or snippets of over-heard conversation, stories on the news etc...

No matter where the spark of inspiration comes from Robin always keeps three things in mind while preaching:

  1. 'What transformation will take place in the hearts and lives of your hearers as a result of what you have said?'
  2. 'Preaching is the opening up of Scripture for a particular group of people at a particular moment in time.'
  3. 'When you preach to the people, lead them to the [Eucharistic] table.'

All three of which are nuggets of wisdom from former teahcers/mentors on the road to becoming a priest.

Of course, like all good professionals, our preachers are no strangers to improvisation, or reacting to the here-and-now. So, to not have to worry about missing any off-the-cuff profundities, why not join us for a service, and get to know us better?

If you have a burning desire to comment on anything you have read, please email the vicar on revrobinpye@gmail.com.
