Civic Service 6th July 2014
A service commenerating the soldiers from WW1 who fought and sadly died from Alderley.
Michael Scaife gave a informative talk about many of the men and women from Alderley whose names are on the war memorial, and what we know of them.
Two winners from the alderley Music festival, added to the service,
Oliver Rushton read “Trench Duty” by Siegfried Sasson and Will Jeys finished the laying of the wreaths with playing the Last Post on his trumpet.
The Alderley Edge Community Primay school, performed a medley of War time songs.
The service was officiated by Revd Jane Parry, Revd Ben Clowes and Mr Kevin Hanrahan.
The wreaths were laid by Doug Beresford on behalf of Royal Legion and Cllr Michael Williamson on behalf of Parish Council.
A displayed put together by Olivia Johnson from her research into the names on the war memorial, on behalf of the Alderley History Group was shown for the first time. It will be moved to the Methodist Church for and St Marys Church in the next couple weeks
Sunday 13th July Methodist Church at 3pm .Marsden Silver Prize Band, conducted by Glyn Williams. Monday 28th July St Marys Church at 11am. Service to commemorate the start of WW1.
Sunday 26th October Festival Hall. Tea Dance run by the British Legion 2-5pm.
