Vicar's Letter December 2015
Remember the Grinch?
He wanted to stop Christmas - the joy, the fun, and all that went with it – yet even after stealing all the Christmas in Whooville he found that the people there still sounded as happy and jolly as ever… it quite confused him…
…And he puzzled three hours till his puzzler was sore then the Grinch thought of something he hadn’t thought of before
Grinch: Maybe Christmas… Doesn’t come from a store…Maybe Christmas… perhaps…Means a little bit more?
And what happened then? Well… in Whooville they say that the Grinch’s small heart grew three sizes that day! And the minute his heart didn’t feel quite so tight he whizzed with his load through the bright morning light and he brought back the toys and the food for the feast
Grinch: And I myself will carve the Roast Beast!
The story ended there and now as we look to our homes where the Christmas tree lights are brightly burning perhaps we can gaze on our feast and our presents galore and think that maybe… perhaps…. Christmas does mean a bit more.
Do come and join us at any of our Christmas services and hear of the hope and joy of what Christmas really is… and may it give you true happiness and faith in our God who loves each one of so much he became as we are…to save us from death to raise us to the promise of eternal life.
May you have a blessed Christmas and whatever your circumstances and whatever your views are of this wonderful celebration…don’t be a Grinch!
